Grandma's Magic Apron
by Raymond Bottom

Grandma's apron was a marvel.
It was great to dry kids' tears.
To wipe muddy little fingers
And clean out dirty ears.

It was a carryall for farm tasks;
Collecting eggs and kindling wood;
For hauling fruit from the orchard;
For toting vegetables it was very good.

In summer it wiped a sweaty face,
In winter it warmed arms from the cold.
Sometimes it carried little chicks
To a warm place, when they were just hours old.

You can brag about high-tech gizmos
That will do a hundred things.
But they can't outdo grandma's magic
In an apron secured by strong strings.
